The example of Lagardère Active
Context and need
Lagardère Active is a worldwide leader in the production and distribution of multiple-media content which includes outstanding brands such as ELLE, Paris Match, Psychologies, Europe 1, Virgin Radio, Gulli or Mezzo.
The mediatization of the 50th anniversary of "May 68" events was a tough challenge for the Lagardère Active teams: they had to find relevant content that was disseminated in the records of several publications of that period (such as Elle or Paris Match).
Lagardère Active thus initiated in 2009 a strategic project for the purpose of centralizing, standardizing and indexing their contents so as to be able to quickly devise offers in the form of "thematic channels" crossing their collections and trades by aggregating the digital contents.
In 2009, 4Dconcept specified the functional scope of the future "Content Factory" by highlighting critical functions. 4Dconcept then made prototypes including Exalead and MarkLogic technologies through several user cases which emphasized several possible architectures and their managing models.
La "Content Factory"
The implemented solution uses a large multi-platform and multi-format panel of processes that dynamically adjusts itself to the existing trade context in the Lagardère Active collections. The system enables the managers to control content, and supplement the semantic contents through automated processing, and create joins between trades in response to their needs.
Content managers now can self-test marketing assumptions and produce with a few clicks new content offers generated from the XML feeds of existing trades.
Lagardère Active also appealled to 4Dconcept in 2010 to make the automated convertion system for the iPad application content of the Paris Match magazine.
Layout artists extend the conventional use of their DTP tools to add items specific to the iPad use such as cartoons, scrollable text, pictures, videos or audio files. The result is a rich iPad application in phase with the identity of the hardcopy version of the magazine.
